Name: Sancia (Planet Name in whole: Krana)
Language: Sancian
Demonym: Sanson
Government: Theocracy
Legislature: The Council of the 7 Priests
Formation: 01760812OC
Area: 185,642 square mile.
Population: 942, 000
Currency: The Hyun
Date Format: yyyymmdd(era)
A year for them is 12 months, each month has 6 weeks. Each week is 8 days, each day is 36 hours. So one month converted to Earth time would be 72 days.
Politics:
This country is a theocracy, so the Sancan religion rules all. The Leader of the religion is currently Tribunal Dionvian, and underneath him is the Council of Seven (Priests Celia, Shaw, Monoya, Luna, Era, Saha and Ucine) who make decisions for the country and any laws and religious mandates are executed by The Judge and his current Pontiff, Priest Ramos. When laws are formed, it has to be presented by at least two of the Council and have proof from either their Doctrine of Faith or proof from general polling that it would be good for the country. A recent law passed due to it being in the Doctrine was the law forbidding plants from the land of Dionei to be used for food production. A recent law passed due to the people's votes is that when a new government building is created, the stone should be bought directly from the Lilla people, due to their current economy going down.
The Country is currently undergoing an event similar to the Spanish Inquisition (which nobody ever expects) due to recent attacks on Government buildings by people of a different Faith and thusly, showing signs of a holy war according to their doctrine.
Foreign Relations:
Sancia currently have tense relations with near-by countries due to the country's policy of trying to 'spread the faith' by going into a country and making it indebted to them and then calling in said debts. A common technique that is used is that in exchange of using the trade routes, it is allowed to send missionaries in.
Countries further away have a more positive relationship, due to not having to worry about Sancia going in and taking over, along with the land's varied climates make it possible for most things being grown there- thus tradable.
Most countries have to pass through Sancia or its territories to trade, and the only thing preventing others from trying to take the land is due to the military power of the land, with a military of one third its population.
Geography:
The Land is very very mixed on a geographical sense, to the South it is mostly desert, north is mostly mountain, with west having plains and the east having woods. There are rivers that travel most north to south with forts at each of the mouths along with two major ports (The Port of the Lady and the Port of the Sire) and two major roads (The Blue Road, which connects port to port and the Green Road, which connects the country to the east to the west). All of the roads tie up into the Main city, and pass through the major Military Forts, this is to help keep people from invading via the roads. Nature has worked well for the country, with mountain ranges, marshes and forested lands providing natural barriers.
Climate:
The Climate allows for a lot of possibilities, the year starts off with SPRING this is the rainy season, but many people make this their times for vacationing because the temperature is perfect for outdoors activities, such as swimming, fishing and caring for crops. SUMMER it can reach up to 108F, so people try and stay cool during this time. It is for this reason also that the Church has made the festivities ones that head to the oceans to relax.
FALL things are cooling off nicely and people who have come to the country for the vacations are leaving, people who had decided to wait out the summer and spring may have a decent beach vacation, but most people usually head north to the mountains. WINTER things are comfortable for the south, but up north there is usually a lot of snow.
Economy:
On its own, the land works mostly off of bartering, with the currency being viewed as mostly useless/for those who are in jobs that produce nothing physical. The currency is given value mostly by the Church, where the Hyun can be redeemed for various Church services, such as doing certain services when they are not being offered. Such as asking for advice at midnight or wanting a wedding contract written up on a day when they are not being offered.
Other countries have trade with the land, due to how Sancia geographically is in the middle of the world, so to speak, thus many countries have to pass through Sancia to go to someplace else.
Technology:
The technology of this country is a combination of Earth's up until the 17th Century. The printing press is one of the newest invention.
Infrastructure:
The Infrastructure is equal to the 17th century also. More information can be found here
Demographics:
The Demographics of the country is based less off of color like many other countries and more off of which section of the country one was raised. This means while a person’s parents might be a Sansen, if the person was born in the caves, they would be considered part of the Lillas, and thus identify with that particular culture. The idea being that blood holds no value when it comes to culture and that one should focus on their current situation instead of their personal family’s glories or shames of the past. There is currently a program going on to promote families to relocate to areas with low ethnic populations to help bring it up to an ‘equal’ level, so people would not get a false idea that because one population group is uncommon/common they are better/worse than other groups.
Also, due to this, there is urgings to keep percentages of colors equal also, again, to prevent an idea of false superiority. If it seems one generation has a smaller percentage certain members would be asked to have one more child to help prevent a shift in power (and in reverse, if one group is getting too large, the church would mandate them to have less children).
When it comes to the different ‘races’ in this land, most of the differences show with the accents, those in the smaller populations tend to use the harsher sounds that are considered ugly, and the church is working on trying to send speech teachers out into those areas to help correct the accents into something uniformed.
Religion:
Religion in this land is of the up most importance, almost everything that is done is believed to have some sort of religious connection to it and at all times members of the faith represent it.
>Titles
Men and Women are both called 'Priest' and the only time gender is used is to avoid confusion (such as Sister A and Brother A and Father A and Mother A.) Then Senority denotes if they get the Mother/Father title. If a 22 year old male has been in the service longer than a 70 year old Male, the 22 year old would be Father and the 70 year old Brother.
For those in the Priesthood, they have cassocks they wear when representing the church, when they are 'dressed down' into their civilian clothing, they have to wear their prayer beads (blue or green and given from the church) where it is obvious. Priests may have a set of beads they use that are personal and can be in any color. For example, Luce's are brown and blue, while Abel's are red.
The role of The Judge is based off the Scripture that someone who can see one's most inner self would be brought into the world to well, judge and purify it. The Church had twisted this role to where the person would be both Judge, Jury and Executioner.
The role of the Pontiff is based off of the idea that along with the Judge, a person would be there to defend to people against their own trespasses, to teach where they went wrong and try and steer them right. The modern day church had made this role into nothing more than a glorified babysitter for the Judge.
>Belief
The belief in this religion has 4 major concepts
Men and Woman are Equals
Deity is the Earth
Humanity is responsible for the creation of sin
And with the sin, comes demons that are born from it. Which causes things like plagues/bad luck/natural disasters. About 100 years ago from the start of the story a bad plague went through the area, once the inquisition started the plague started to die down, thus people thought it was that and weeding out the sinners and non believers is what did it instead of better hygiene and getting rid of those who were sick (thought being punished) and burning the bodies.
Life is forever
They believe in a cycle of rebirth, and that as people do good in their lives they will be moved up and up into easier lives until they reach the final reward. If someone does bad, they are cast down in proportion to how bad a life they lived and have to work up again. The final reward is peace and being one with the Deity once more.
>Concept of God
The people of Sancia believe that the Deity is the Earth and the Deity's body makes it up. The Deity is neither male nor female.

Welcoming to Life
The First Confession
Around the age of four, children are sent to their first confession. Done in a group setting, that way when they are forced to confess they are made to be the center of a group shunning. A week later, the teacher will ask them if they learned anything of course they will say yes, when in fact what they are learning is to do what the church says or prepared to be abandoned.
At 9, many children are signed up for the youth group, in which they are indoctrinated further into the faith that will take up much of their freetime until they are old enough to create their document of life, and thus start their adulthoods. It is extremely rare for a child not to be signed up for this and there is a lot of pressure from the church to allow the children into it. They do things such as learn the scriptures/sermons, and various other survival skills. Think similar to the Scouts- but with crazy indoctrination mixed in.
When they are 15, they are allowed for one year to go off and try a trade their parents had not picked for them. Usually they fail at it and thusly go back into the trade their parents picked.
The Document of Life
The Document of Life is where a child enters their adult lives, with this they start working on their trade, can get married, suggest laws, and prepare for in case they die- usually some of their hair is cut of to be made into something for surviving family members along with a living will made, and personal information put down and locked into the church so in their next lives, they could stake claim to their personal possessions (such as money that will be put into the church's vaults each year on their birthday- so in their next lives if they go claim it, they have that to help start their new lives). If after 200 after their death no one can prove to be a rebirth, the church will take all possessions of that person for its own use.

Languages:
The language of the land is mixed, but has melded into one main language with the main variants being with local slang, but no matter what there is a certain politeness level based off of tone and repetiveness. Also, there is a strong lack of ‘harsh’ sounds to the more educated parts of the language. For example, the name ‘Luce’ is considered a more proper name in comparison to ‘Bertha’, due to how soft the first name sounds.
When one says the language has a politeness level based off of the tones, that means there is five distinct tones one uses when talking and how one if portrayed. The highest would be speaking with a ‘calm’ tone. The reason for this is because it feels to the other party one is thinking what they are saying through, in comparison to the other tones which shows some expression that they are speaking without thought. This also allows for the speaker to remind themselves not to let their emotions get the worse of them and make impulse decisions. Thus after the ‘calm’ tone, is a ‘happy’ sounding tone. It is more excited, and expected usually to be heard amongst friends, family and children. The emotion is allowed to be brought into it, because of the level of personalness, which the other parties involved have the time and the mental dedication to sort through any emotional nuances.
After that is just an ‘angry’ tone. This is considered most rude, because one is showing they don’t care to use their words to fully express ideas and thoughts, but instead just to make noise to make noise. Off of the ‘happy’ tone there is two more tones, a ‘sarcastic’ tone- a polite ‘anger’ level, and a ‘sad’ level. Those two are usually reserved for family like friends and family. Recent studies had shown the development of a new tone in the works reserved for lovers, which sounds more breathy. Use of this tone in public is considered very rude to all around and is frowned upon. It is a reserved for only the lover. In plays, actors and actresses tend to avoid this tone, and try to move to a cheerful sarcastic tone for lover scenes, feeling that the mix of emotions would be the equal to the emotions of love.
And then, no matter how one speaks, one usually shows politeness by showing they are paying attention, in English one often does that by the use of Backchannels (words that are used as continuers or assessments), but in the Sancian language, those are a sign that one truly isn’t paying attention or that they are not dedicating their full attention to the spoken topic. So a default tends to be confirm the previous speaker(s) ideas and add on with their own. A polite conversation would go similar to this:
Prima: Today I went to the market, I traded three eggs to get Siga a red ball, and then I saw the play ‘The Clown of the Village River.’
Secunda: I hope Siga enjoys her ball, just like I hope you enjoyed ‘The Clown of the Village River’. Were there any good deals at the market today?
Prima: I enjoyed the play, and there were good deals today. For example, there was lamb on sell for 10 hyuan and silk for 7 hyun per half-spool.
Secunda: The lamb and the silk are both very good deals, do you know if they had deals on chickens?
Of course, the example provided is very, very extreme.
A conversation like the above would do well in formal situations or among strangers/acquaintances. A conversation amongst friends or family might go like:
Prima: Today I went to the market, I traded three eggs to get Siga a red ball, and then I saw the play ‘The Clown of the Village River.’
Secunda: How was the play, and were there any good deals at the market today?
Prima: It was good, and there were. Anything in particular you are looking for?
Secunda: Yes, I am wondering if there were deals on chickens.
A rude conversation would go:
Prima: Today I went to the market, I traded three eggs to get Siga a red ball, and then I saw the play ‘The Clown of the Village River.’
Secunda: While you were at the market, did you see any deals?
Prima: Yes.
Secunda: Any on chickens?
While in the English language the last conversation would see ‘normal’, for the Sancian language it shows that Secunda only cares about the parts that only affect her. While the polite one shows she paid attention to each part of what was being said and asked for more information. In schooling, this is important because it shows that the student truly did not understand a topic instead of just not paying attention.
Education:
Most people in this land learn via apprenticeship. The church requires everyone to be able to read so they could read manuscripts of sermons if they happen to miss one due to illness, war or other adversity. Reading is taught at the Churches. Speech Teachers tend to go out to far areas and train those of lesser speaking capabilities.
There is a stigma when it comes to people with mental disabilities, many people are not willing to take them on for apprenticeship due to not understanding what causes it. Most with disabilities tend to be swept under the rug and hidden away from the general populace while families try and work on covering up the missing child and 'replacing' them.
Health:
Culture:
Norms:
Bow your head in greeting and leaving
Folkways:
Don't dress in revealing clothing.
Don't touch people unless you know them closely.
Dress up for the Sermon
Mores:
Acting on one of the big three crimes. (Murder, Rape, Kidnapping)
Badmouthing the Theocracy
More information on taboos and the Black Market can be found here
Art:
The art of the era would be similar to International Gothic, except that religious figures/idols were not allowed to be painted. Most art is commissioned.
In contrast to the underground art world in the black market. Where artists have more freedom without the church breathing down their neck. Its a bigger leap between the boundaries. The leap getting BIGGER the further you get from the main city. Artist florish in smaller towns/out skirts of towns. Its a mixture of Art Nouveau and Dada the further you get from the main city. Artists primarily make up the rebellion for a reason.
The underground plays have rebels 'mocking' the holy doctrine stories, like staging live performances of creation stories and taking liberties with it. The Church tries to squish those as soon as possible.
